Lizq… Internet or not… here we come!

Jun 23rd

Internet… not so much.

So we finally found internet!  We are supposed to have internet at our house with a modem… but since we have been here, the modem has not worked!  So it is making things very interesting for uploading research, and trying to get in touch with family back in the states!

So here is a rundown of what we have done so far…

Update

For the past few days, we have been going to Souks (markets) in the morning and then going to the Desert to visit Bedouin houses.  In the afternoons, we have been resting, as does everyone due to the temp being around 50 degrees Celsius…  For the non-math majors out there… that is about 120 degrees Fahrenheit…  So I guess it is a little warm…

Home Visits

The home visits with the Bedouins have been very good and for each, we have been invited back for dinner.  Bedouin people used to be nomads.  They would follow their herds of camels and goats to where they could find food and water.  Over the past several decades the government has made water and electricity possible even out in the desert so these people have settled down in a space they call their home.  It is a high honor to be invited back into their house, they are honoring us as their guests and treating us as family.

Here is a pic of a Bedou man that we spoke with.

We were invited back to his house for dinner in a few days!

Here is a pic at another Bedou house…

Watch out they spit…

The House

The house that we are staying in is… well, lets just say there is a/c and running water… kinda… and electricity.  So all in all it has been pretty good.  The first refrigerator that was delivered to the house when we arrived caught on fire.  The second fridge keeps things “cool” in the fridge space and the freezer is a little cooler than a regular fridge… So it is making food storage a lil difficult.  We are making due and everyone is being troopers!

We are doing work see…

Interpreters

We have had 3 interpreters and they have been great!  Adil, our male interpreter is 22 years old and is really nice and wants to make sure everything is perfect for us.  He is also our guide and is setting up all of our visits!  The two females seem to be nice also, although none of the guys have spoken to them because this is not culturally appropriate.  Here is a pic of Adil at a Taylor’s shop that we stopped at…

This is not his knife, he was just telling us about it!

So we have had a fun couple days…  I am not sure if when I will be able to post again… we may be making a daily trip to the internet cafe here in Sinaw, its about 30 minutes away…

Until then… Colby
